Georgian era Chelsea porcelain figurine of flower seller with red anchor mark

£135.00

A finely modelled Chelsea Red Anchor Period porcelain figurine of a young flower seller, carrying a rucksack filled with a colourful bouquet, including roses and posies. The figure is delicately painted, with a well-balanced colour palette that enhances the overall composition.

Marked with a red anchor, a mark associated with the Chelsea porcelain factory, one of England’s earliest and most prestigious porcelain manufacturers. Chelsea produced highly decorative pieces and tableware, inspired by German and Sèvres porcelain, sought after by the wealthiest collectors of the period.

Due to the enduring reputation of Chelsea porcelain, high-quality imitations were made by firms such as Samson in the 19th century. While this example bears the Chelsea anchor mark, there remains a possibility that it is a later, finely executed reproduction. If original, it belongs to the Red Anchor Period, dating from 1752 to 1756.

Height: 14.5 cm
Weight: 214 g

Very good antique condition. The index finger of the right hand has been restored, with damage to the large finger on the same hand. The belt, originally attached to the basket, is missing, and there are significant losses to the leaves with minor wear to the gilt decoration. Otherwise, the figurine remains in very good condition, with well-preserved colours and finely retained details.
