Victorian old mine cut paste 900 silver starburst hat / scarf / tie stick pin
Wonderful Victorian solid silver hat or tie pin that can also be used as a scarf or hair ornament. Made of 900 silver, the pin is formed in a beautiful starburst shape and set with 21 old-mine cut paste (Strass) stones. All the stones are original and cut by a good jeweller - they catch the light beautifully and sparkle like diamonds.
The pin comes in original antique presentation case with dark blue velvet body and cream silk lining to lid.
Paste jewellery despite being used as a low cost substitute for diamonds in 18th to 20th century is now highly sought after in its own right. It has a very long history with a form of paste dating all the way back to the Roman empire.
Made in Europe, 1880's.
