Victorian rosewood writing slope with working key and secret drawers

£190.00

The fitted interior still holds its original burgundy writing surface and stationery compartments, along with three concealed drawers tucked beneath the writing bed — the Victorian equivalent of a false bottom, for whatever a person felt was nobody else’s business. The rosewood veneer is well figured throughout, giving the whole thing a presence that argues for display as much as use.

Good antique condition overall. The working key is present and the lock functions correctly. Approximately half of the original leather writing surface is missing. Several stationery compartment covers and the panel concealing the secret drawers are absent. There is age-related wear, veneer losses, scratches, ink staining and general wear throughout. The three concealed drawers remain present and functional.

Weight: 4.4 kg. Closed: 50 × 25.5 × 17 cm. Open: 51 × 50 cm. Height when open: 4–12 cm.
