Edwardian three-piece sterling silver fluted octagonal tea set

£400.00

Elegant antique Edwardian sterling silver three-piece tea set, made by William Adams and fully hallmarked for Birmingham, 1903. The set features tapered octagonal bodies with finely fluted incuse corners, reflecting the refined classical influences of Edwardian design. The teapot is fitted with a turned ebony wooden scroll handle and a matching ebony finial, providing a sophisticated contrast to the polished silver surfaces. The teapot, sugar bowl, and milk jug are crafted with clean, angular lines and a beautiful symmetry, offering a timeless design that remains highly desirable for collectors and elegant table settings.

The Edwardian period (1901–1910) was marked by a taste for elegant, restrained classical design, often combined with practical craftsmanship. Silver tea services from this era are admired for their balance of form, functionality, and beauty.

Total weight: 477.50 g (15.4 troy ounces)
Teapot weight: 308.52 g
Sugar bowl and creamer combined weight: 168.98 g
Teapot dimensions: 11.5 cm tall, 23.5 cm spout to handle, 8.5 cm wide
Sugar bowl dimensions: 6 cm tall to rim, 13.5 cm handle to handle, 6 cm wide
Milk jug dimensions: 6 cm tall to spout, 11 cm spout to handle, 5 cm wide

Good antique condition overall. The teapot interior is very clean. The set retains a lovely bright polish and displays beautifully. Several dings are present on all three pieces, appropriate for their age and use. There is a thin crack at the bottom of the teapot spout through which water seeps, and tiny splits are visible at the tip of the spout.  Please review all photographs carefully as they form part of the description.
