1880's Dutch silver spectacle glasses case in Neoclassical style
Antique Dutch silver spectacle case for glasses. Elongated rectangular body of hexagonal form with bevelled edges. Beautiful engine-turned decoration all over the body - geometric bands to base and a doted floral design to lid. The edges of the lid are trimmed with a meander Greek key design in Neoclassical style; the two corners of the lid are engraved with scrolls. There is a vacant cartouche to centre for personalised engraving that is surrounded with wriggle work scrolls.
The lid opens with a push button catch to reveal dark blue velvet lining. Underneath the lining there is a lion passant 2 mark for 833 silver.
Made in the Netherlands, c. 1880’s.
