Victorian silver plated two-handled entrée / vegetable serving dish with scrolls and shells

£70.00
Sold

Superb Victorian silver-plated entrée / vegetable serving dish with two original liners and a domed pull-off cover. The tureen has an oblong body and two handles that are trimmed with an exquisite gadrooned border; the corners of the dish are further accented with scrolls and shells in a Georgian style. The handle has a geometric design with a similarly applied gadrooned decoration and terminates with rich foliage that seems to grow out of the lid.

The interior of the dish retails both the original liners, one of solid design and the other pierced with geometric borders and intended to work as a sieve for draining. This makes this dish perfect for serving breakfast bacon or sausages.

This entrée is made by one of the most famous silversmith companies in British history and displays their high levels of craftsmanship and artistic accomplishments.

Made by James Dixon & Sons, Sheffield, c. 1890s

1744 g
9 cm tall to handle
31 cm handle to handle

Excellent antique condition. Some wear to silvering to base appropriate to age and use; scratch to the interior of the lid; the solid liner has one corner with a small ding and a small split.
